Ready for a Change? Here’s What to Expect When Starting Therapy
What to Expect When Starting Therapy | Miller Counseling
Starting therapy can feel like a big step—especially if you’ve been carrying the weight of anxiety, stress, or emotional pain alone for a long time.
At Miller Counseling, we understand how hard it can be to reach out. Whether you’re struggling with your relationships, feeling overwhelmed at work, or just feeling stuck, therapy offers a path forward.
What Brings People to Therapy
Most people don’t start therapy because life is going great. They start because something isn’t working. Maybe it’s…
Feeling emotionally reactive or disconnected
Difficulty communicating with your partner
Struggling to manage anxiety or depression
A sense that you’ve lost yourself and want to find your way back
Whatever brings you here, it matters—and it’s valid.
What to Expect in the First Session
If you’ve never been to therapy, you might be wondering: What happens in the first session?
We begin by talking about what’s going on in your life and what you hope to change. You don’t need to prepare anything or say the “right” thing—this space is for you. I’ll ask a few questions to get a sense of your goals and share how I typically work with clients.
This is a chance for us to make sure we’re a good fit.
Therapy That Fits Your Life
I work with adults, couples, and individuals navigating everything from daily stress to deep-rooted emotional patterns. Sessions are held in person at my office or online for Colorado and North Carolina residents.
Therapy shouldn’t feel like one more thing on your to-do list. I do my best to make the process approachable, flexible, and tailored to your needs.
Thinking About Reaching Out?
If you’ve been considering therapy, you don’t have to wait for things to get worse. Reaching out can be the first step to feeling better.
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to talk briefly about what you’re looking for and answer any questions you may have.
Let’s talk. Contact me today and take that first step.
Let me know if you’d like a version tailored for the Colorado practice, life coaching, or couples therapy.
